Railway station in Hua hin Thailand

One of the oldest in Thailand, it was constructed in 1920 during the reign of King Rama VI, and located on Damnoern Kasem Road. An ornate red-and-cream wooden pavilion dominates the low platform and the colonial-style main building.

Hua hin

A favorite getaway for Bangkok residents, Hua Hin is a pretty beachside town. Family friendly and relaxed, it lacks the all-night partying and seedier aspects that make other nearby beach resorts a haven for unsavory characters. Once a small fishing village, it was transformed into a royal resort, and it’s these close links with Thai royalty that ensure Hua Hin won’t become overdeveloped or lose its small-town vibe.

Horse riding on the beach of Hua hin

horses go up and down the beach all day, and you can hire from the beach mainly outside Sofitel Resort, or anywhere you see a vacant horse and handler on the beach! The breed used is a smallish pony and you would most likely be escorted by the handler who has to pick up and remove any droppings. After a days ''walking'' it is fun to see the horses being ridden like the clappers, for a bit of excercise, on their way home!

Plearn wan Hua hin

Newly constructed traditional old Thai market and buildings are charming attraction. Anterior wooden structures look like warehouse in the past. Goods sold inside were both new and old styles. Used to be crowded with teenagers taking photos, but now seem faded with time.

Silk selling on the beach in hua hin

beach seller : Woman sell cloths on the beach at Huahin.

Hua Hin Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

Not a true floating market but stalls surrounding a large pond. It's practically the same as a night market but with a time difference and lacking the atmosphere. They're selling the usual stuff for tourists at the usual prices. Some basic places to eat but nothing worthy of a mention. You can buy food and feed the fish or goats. Free entry, should take you an hour to get around.

Swiss sheep farm Cha-am Hua hin

Located in North Cha-Am Beach Area; Opposite Santorini Amusement Park; These is a gimmick sheep farm for visitor stop and take mobile selfie photo shoot. Horse ride ; Sheep feeding services Also Souvenir dolls to sell. .

Market village Hua hin

Market Village is a nice (and so far biggest) shopping mall in Hua Hin. You can find here a Lotus super market, several banks and retsaurants. Also some fast food stores are here. The athmosphere is more like a market village than a shopping mall. A very pleasant place. Due to the increased tourist numers in Hua Hin in th elast years it gets very crowde.

Marukhathaiyawan Cha-am

The palace is set in its own grounds which are nice to walk about but in addition one of the royal princesses has opened up much of the area as an environmental park with pathways and bridges crossing mangroves. There is also a bird hide and many cycle paths. It is 30 bhat to enter the grounds and another 30 to go into the upstairs rooms of the palace.

Hua Hin is one of the safest and most tranquil beach destinations in Thailand. Home to the royal vacationing palace Klai Kangwol, Hua Hin is regulated and secured with a strict practice of security measures.

The most part of the nocturnal scene is closed at 1AM. The permission to close at 2AM extends to the venues located inside hotels, considering they are meant to mainly cater to hotels’ guests.

With a controllable number of entertainment venues and eateries, Hua Hin is kept unspoiled and tranquil, unlike such urbanized coastal cities as Pattaya and Phuket.

In addition, the anti-mafia measures the Hua Hin Police austerely exercises ensures that the town is free from illicit organizations formed by foreigners to harass or pose threats on fellows from the same countries.

Located in the tropical hemisphere, Hua Hin’s climates are mastered by the circulation of seasonal wind currents.

Summer
From mid-February to mid-May (32-38 degrees Celsius/ influenced by South East current)
Rain
From mid-May to mid-October (28-38 degrees Celsius/ influenced by South West current)
Winter
From mid-October to mid-February (20-33 degrees Celsius/ influenced by North East current)

Nightlife in Hua hin

By and large, Hua Hin afterdark does not have brassy beer or sexy gogo bars and racy nightlife as on the other side of the Gulf. The superior Hua Hin and Takiab beaches and Takiap Bay, Suan Son beach and Khao Tao beach, wide open endless stretches of fine powdery white sand, are relatively uncrowded and clean, the pace of life calm and relaxing, an ideal place to travel with the family for their annual holiday.

Hua Hin history

The term “Hua Hin”, literally translating “Stone Heads”, derives from its root “Tamor Reang” (“stones lining up”) in the Khmer language. The name reflects one unique geographical feature of the place—stones sticking out from the seabed in the ascending order of sizes. It was maintained that the first inhabitants of Hua Hin migrated down from immediate province Petchburi. The pioneers established a fisherman community called Somoreang, which still exists today.

Hua Hin’s owes the beginning of its story as the country’s leading beach resort to Hua Hin Railway Station. Following the completion of the Railway Station construction in 1903, during the reign of King Rama V, this seaside town enjoyed the most convenient access and gradually brought in visits by the nobility of the time, including Prince Prajadhipok, who would later on reign over Siam, the then-Thailand, by the title King Rama VII.

Impressed with the pristine nature of Hua Hin even before his accession to the throne, King Rama VII commanded the construction of Klai Kangwon Palace early in his reign. The emergence of the royal residence subsequently spurred the popularity of owning houses in Hua Hin among royalties and elites. The beach soon saw their second homes built mansion after mansion.

The heyday ensuing the clustering of elites’ accommodations then propelled Hua Hin to phases of modernization. The phenomenon was represented by the emergences of Thailand’s first standard golf course and market—Royal Hua Hin Golf Course and Talad Chatchai Market. Royal Hua Hin Golf Course was located in the Railway Hotel, which would become today’s Sofitel Central Hotel.

Elements from the old days are still very much in presence of today’s Hua Hin. The sea is still crystal clear, the sand pearly white, and the beach so peaceful as it has forever been. Though popular among seaside travelers from provinces nearby, Hua Hin’s characteristic tranquility is well preserved, thanks to its smallness and, especially, its status as the royal vacationing town.

Aside from the picturesque seaside, the town is reputed for spas, diving and golf courses. Its modern face is embodied by world-class facilities while tranquil nature is perfectly reserved. Having been recognized as Thailand’s first beach resort over a century, Hua Hin still makes the maritime sanctuary for travelers who search for tranquility and the pure coastal nature.

Traffic rules in Hua Hin

A motorbike is ridden by only up to 2 persons. Helmet use is compulsory

Speed limits
Around the royal compound- Up to 50km/hr. Rule applies to all types of vehicles
In other parts of Hua Hin    - Up to 60km/hr for motorbikes
Up to 80km/hr for vehicles with 4-8 wheels

Vehicles with 10 wheels or above are prohibited from running past the royal compound

Fines
Such violations as non-helmet riding, mis-parking etc. infer fines of 200 baht minimum. The fines are paid at the Hua Hin Police Station. Failure to make payments deprives the vehicle from number plate renewal.

Ownership and usage of motorbike
The very first and bottom line of driving or riding in Hua Hin is “driving license”. You have to hold either an international driving license or a Thai driving license to make a lawful motorist here.

International driving license is issued by the associated authority in your country while Thai driving license can be sought from Thailand’s Department of Land Transport.

However, before contacting the Department of Land Transport, you need a prerequisite from the Singkhorn Immigration Office, which is located on the ground floor of the Hua Hin Police Station. The Immigration Police is the one to keep the information of your stay, and issue credentials to confirm that you truly are spending your time here.

Once you get the document from the Immigration Office, you are ready to take a driving test with the Department of Land Transport and get the license if you qualify. This very same document issued by the Immigration Office also is required in buying your own vehicles.

Basic Laws and Regulations

Locals and foreigners are subjected to equitable punishments when committing a crime in the Kingdom of Thailand. That means commitments of such severe crimes as drug dealing, first-degree murder, etc. can result in capital punishment, regardless of nationalities, races, or genders.

Foreigners who undergo judicial process in Thailand are banished after serving their jail terms. If the banished criminals fail to provide their own expenses of returning to the home countries, the embassies representing their countries will prepay the costs and recoup them from the criminals when they successfully get back home.

The authority to permit foreign criminals’ future visits to the kingdom is solely reserved by Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Nonetheless, Hua Hin hardly ever sees commitments of severe crimes. Breaches mostly found among foreign visitors are repeated jittery ones such as parking vehicles in forbidden areas, riding motorbikes without helmets, and using vehicles without licenses.

Once again, it all goes back to Hua Hin’s status as the ground of the royal palace Klai Kangwol. Fund raising and noise making is strictly prohibited while the royal compound must not be trespassed by any means.

Hin Lek Fai Hill Hua hin

The place to be for a birds eye view of Hua Hin.

A must see location at your stay in wonderful Hua Hin is high up at Hin Lek Fai Hill with some spectacular views of Hua Hin. This rocky hill is situated about three kilometers west of the town centre. Hin Lek Fai Hill is generally known as the great viewpoint where you can have a look of the whole town. This place will serve you the most delightful views of Hua Hin either during the day or night.

What will you get to see there?

The most important thing you must not miss once you get there is, of course, the panoramic view of Hua Hin. There are a total of 6 viewpoints around this hill. However the 5th and 6th viewpoints are claimed to be the best spots. But, of course, you should try all the lookouts as they offer views of Hua Hin in different directions. From those viewpoints you can see and spot many places in Hua Hin.

One of the viewpoints offers you a splendid view of the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course. Please read more about the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course in our Golfing section.

Besides the town, you will be able to spot the Indigo-tic Sea, the Gulf of Thailand that forever gives you the relaxing mood. The viewpoints to the south allows for views as far as Khao Takiab.

The the north you will see the coastline of Cha Am, the Hua Hin sister-city.
What's next once you are done admiring the beautiful distant views? It's a good idea to have a walk around this extensive place to admire also the peaceful scenery of the hill.

Go have a look and pay respect to the statue of His Majesty King Prajadhipok (King Rama VII) and also study The Royal Biography. Walk around the hill and see the different kinds of rare trees, very unique to this part of the worl.

More interestingly, you have a good number of colorful peacocks and wild fowls roaming around the place that adds to the ambiance of the location. And finally enjoy the beauty of the well laid out garden with many different species of shrubs, trees and bamboo.

Spend quality time in calmness...

Hin Lek Fai Hill is the place where you can spend your quiet and thoughtful time. The calmness of this place, the fresh air that continuously and softly blows against the natural plants and the scenery this scenic place provides make it all possible for you to spend time contemplating about things in your life or just to be fully relaxed both physically and mentally. Standing up there on the peak of this high hill watching the red, blue, green, and orange roofs of those tiny houses, shops, hotels and different other places give you a nice idea of how small this charming town really is.

It is said that you will get to see the most beautiful scene and the perfect atmosphere if you can afford to be there very early in the morning. Also at sundown is arguably the best time to come. A small suggestion for those who really want to relax in the quietness of this place you may avoid choosing Saturdays and Sundays to make a trip up here.

Want to do some exercise?

Hin Lek Fai Hill never lacks visitors. A lot of local people make the daily trip to the top sometimes by running or cycling for some exercise. This is actually a very nice concept as exercising makes you happy relaxed and keeps you body healthy, also on holiday in Hua Hin. The locals welcomes you join them to do the same. But walking around the hill can also be another form of good exercise.

Like any other hills, it's a steep climb to the top which can easily tire you out but definitely worth it once you're up there. Therefore, make sure you're fit enough to give it a tour around Hin Lek Fai Hill in Hua Hin.

Hin Lek Fai Hill is open daily to the public from 6 am to 8 pm. This is a public place that asks for no entrance fee. The comfortable parking area is available there. In case you want to make a small picnic to this place, you need not worry as there are few stalls selling food and drink. Clean toilets are also available.

Feel free and safe to visit Hin Lek Fai Hill in Hua Hin on any day. The security guards who look after the place will always welcome you with friendly manners.

Go Kart in Hua hin

Go Kart Hua Hin pronounces itself as one of the best Go Kart tracks in Thailand. Upon visiting the site and safely doing almost 40 thrilling laps at 80 kilometers an hour, we have to hand it to their statement of confidence. Go-Karting on this sole world-class track of Hua Hin would highly deserve an official status as the town’s must-do if there were one.

At the first sight, what lies ahead on Go Kart Hua Hin’s 700-meter circuit may be different in the eyes of non-mileage drivers and experienced Karters. Getting the sight of the track’s above-standard scale, true Go-Kart fans can’t wait to get their hands on the steering wheels. Meanwhile, it is comprehensible for newcomers to perceive what awaits them as an arduous escapade. Yet, no matter how the first impressions split, what they share in the end is the incomparable Go-Karting experience.

Lurching to the top

We brought the senior karts, with 13HP, 390cc, because they are faster. Go-Kart companies around Bangkok have 6HP or 9HP Karts. So, we went 13HP.” Neil Heron, Go Kart Hua Hin Director, speaks of the star of the Kart lineups. The 13HP karts make a major element in their spectrum of highlights. The track sees visits from Bangkokian regulars on weekends and constantly attracts new faces, both foreign and local ones.

Aside from the signature 13HP Karts, Go Kart Hua Hin's endeavor to achieve the superiority also manifests to several distinctive features. The slogan “Professional, Safe and Exciting” perfectly communicates their attitude of settling for nothing but the top notch.

With the length of 700 meters, the circuit overtakes Go-Kart tracks in general by twice the size or even thrice. Each racer is monitored with ROC Professional Lap Timing System. The system is used in F1 and has a roster of world-class clients which includes Silverstone Circuit, Brands Hatch race circuit, and Michael Schumacher’s Kart Center in Germany. When the session ends, each racer is given a printout detailing the total time, laps, best lap, top speed and so on.

We’ve tried racing at other tracks before but it’s more difficult and more professional here. It’s like a real racing in F1 style.” says Hrannar Einarsson, a 25-year-old vacationer from Iceland.

Over the past two weeks, Einarsson and his other three friends have hit the track multiple times for the exhilarating 20-minute races among themselves. It is the outstanding sessions of adrenaline rush that keeps them coming back for more and more. The craving for excitement these young men and other Karters at Go Kart Hua Hin experience seem to be insatiable.

At Go Kart Hua Hin, there is no demand that is undoable. No matter which level of thrill you would like to feel, they can bring it, regardless of the darkness of the night.

“Here we have the Floodlight System. It is created with 72 spotlights around the tracks. So, at 7 o’clock in the evening when it goes dark, and you want to race in the night. We can turn on 72 1500-Watt spotlights. We light the track up like a football stadium. So you can race in the night, in light, for as long as you want.
“At many tracks, when it goes dark, there is no more racing. A lot of people come down from Bangkok on Fridays or Saturdays. They like to come racing at 7-8 o’clock because it’s cooler.” Neil speaks of a safety element, the Floodlight System, and the reception it enjoys.

Meanwhile, folks who crave an ultimate adrenaline rush may choose to arrive at the track some hours after the sun goes down. Getting themselves seated on the passenger side in a dual-seater Kart, they are ready to experience the thrill of a wild ride steered into the complete darkness by a stunt.

“He can drive with his eyes closed.” says Neil, pointing into the track at Duk, who has just made a sudden exhilarating, powerful swerve away from a large tire wall and niftily overtaken one of the young Icelandic racers who invited him to join them in a race. Duk is a marshal and a stunt with almost two years of experience on the track. He shines in the blazing afternoon while our jaws drop.

Safety equals priority

“Try driving on your own. Drive at the speed you feel safe.” Neil says to me several times, learning I crashed while riding a sort of non-motor Kart in New Zealand before. I see a great deal of concern in his eyes. “

Safety is our priority. Everyone learns to drive at their own speed limit where they feel safe, know when to go and when to stop. Go-Karting is a non-contact sport. There should be no bumping.” Neil carries on to briefly explain the core of the Go-Karting etiquette.

Before stepping into the track, every driver is given a brief safety and etiquette tuition. Several marshals are stationed around the track to assist racers when experience any problem, or can’t drive back onto the track by themselves. The racers will just need to stay in the Kart, raise their hands, and they will be helped back onto the track safely.

The wide wheelbase gives high stability to the Karts. If you make a driving error, they could easily spin, but never turn over. The raised sides assure drivers a firm grip to their seats, without the aid of seatbelts. Tire walls, sand banks and catch nets offer further protection.

Go Kart Hua Hin performs the reengineering of used Karts regularly. The Karts are stripped into pieces, go through thorough checks, and reassembled. So, you can be assured that each and every vehicle is in perfect condition.

From my first lap in a 9HP Kart to the 38th lap in a 13HP one, I find myself in some startling situations. And, though a few of them somewhat reminds me of when I crashed in New Zealand’s non-motor Lube Kart many years ago, driving lap after lap, I come to develop the secure sensation and the trust in my Go-Kart here.

Me and my 13HP Kart run onto the tallest tire walls, forming a scary-looking angle with the ground, but the collision doesn’t give me a scratch. I even jet hard into a few tire walls nearby on some later lap, my Kart spins, yet I stay safe and sound. On the farewell lap, I come to count on every element of Go-Karting here so much that I even have guts to travel at the max speed… where I still feel safe (Aren’t you proud of me, Khun Neil?). The vehicle sees me getting up from it, walking taller and more like a daredevil.

The fun for the whole family

Go Kart Hua Hin sees regular visits by families from Bangkok as well as from overseas. Of course, it is the highly reliable safety policies that win the trust from the parents. Moreover, the track has an extensive fleet of high-quality Karts for drivers of different ages—ranging from 13HP Senior Karts (10 units), 6.5HP Junior Karts (4 units), and 6.5HP and 9HP Twin Seater Karts (4 units). How little could a child be to make a mini-Go-Karter? “Three years of age. If his/her feet can touch the pedals, he/she can drive.

“This one eight-year-old boy even made 400 laps. He just kept going and going and never got exhausted!” Neil recounts amusedly.

The full-range services

Go Kart Hua Hin is more than a circuit. Through the range of services it offers and activities it holds, this place forms a “team” and a “club” of the adrenaline addicts. Privately owned Karts may be housed and maintained here with complete care. The fee covers all maintenance expenses. The only thing owners pay for is the fuel they use in driving. New and secondhand sales are also offered.

When you feel like a dash of adrenaline rush, simply give them a call one hour prior to your arrival. Go Kart Hua Hin provides proper changing rooms. After getting yourself freshened up, just head to your Kart and travel in the full form.

The track is also available for organizing Go-Karting-themed corporate events and parties.

The passion of the game and the competition

On Go Kart Hua Hin’s official website, there is a section fully dedicated to overtaking. Why is it such a big deal? Let’s hear it from Neil himself once again.

“When you drive on the normal road, you have many different drivers. You all drive at different speeds so, it’s quite easy to overtake. When it comes down to Go-Karting, because every Go-Kart is the same—same engine, same tires—it’s all about the driver, how experienced and how good he/she is. On the 700-meter track, when you drive at 75km/hr, it’s very hard to beat ten people around you and get yourself in the lead.”

The Full Moon Tournaments take place monthly. Come racing in the moonlight to qualify for a Formula One style grid line-up. The current track record of 35.939 seconds was set in February 2007 by Bung, the track’s most seasoned marshal and chief mechanic with seven years of experience. Racers who break Bung’s record are awarded with discounts of 500 baht maximum.

However, before the arrival of the grand event, racers get the weekly chances to sharpen their skills in the real-competition atmosphere. You are invited to form a team of three people and compete in the Endurance Race at 4pm every Sunday.

“What I’m trying to do at the moment is to build up enough team members, gather sponsors to enter the national level, and build up a genuine racing team.” Neil is determined to take Go-Kart Hua Hin to another level.

Hua hin buses to the south

These depart Hua hin from the bus station at the very top (Western end) of Chomsin Road, on the right just before you get to the railway line. Do not confuse this bus station with the one that runs to Bangkok. Hua hin news

Hua hin nightlife

In spite of Hua Hin being a city with quite a few of nightclubs, only one of them — Hilton/Hua Hin Brewing Company — can be compared to a western disco. Nightclubs in the “Thai” way is different to western clubs as Thai people normally prefer to sit or stand at tables while drinking beer and/or whisky and listening to a live band performing popular domestic songs. In fact, when Thai people hang out at nightclubs, it is usually not to dance themselves but rather to listen to music and follow the dance steps of professional singers and dancers. Hin Nam Sai Suay, Star Planet and Stepz are the largest Thai-style nightclubs in town.

Hua Hin is a small beach town that some often refer to as 'Little Pattaya'. The bar zone is small but lively enough.
The main zone of activity is Bintabaht, a real fleshpot of activity within stones throw of the towns main temple. Back in the day plenty of olde style teak buildings were scattered about the place but nowadays only a few remain.

Outside of the Bintabahn area the bar areas are pretty thin on the ground. The nightmarket is pretty decent and worth a look.
Thailands women working the bars typically head here after working the Phuket, Pattaya and/or Bangkok circuit. The Bar Girl scene in Hua Hin has a tendency for them to be on the hunt for for a farang boyfriend or husband to settle in with but there are exceptions. As a result, the age range tends to be older, as old as 40 in some cases, the attitude of the BGs in Hua Hin is said by some to be quite jaded for Thailand.
The expat population is, in-turn, somewhat older than other areas to suit this.

Hua Hin Brewing Company — Hua Hin’s only western nightclub (combined with a restaurant) is located next to the Hilton. If you are looking for cheap drinks, this might not be your first choice. However, if you can afford drinks that are a bit dearer than at other venues and if you are a keen listener to the latest music hits, then Hua Hin Brewing Company will not disappoint you. Here you can move to music mixed by local DJs or performed by decent live bands. The venue tends to get very crowded during weekends in high season. There is normally no entrance fee before 11 pm but if you come later than that there is sometimes a fee of 120 baht or more. However, in addition to access to the club, you also get a drink or a beer for this money. If you wish to dance during your stay in Hua Hin, the Hilton nightclub is the definite choice.

Among Thais that wish to party in Hua Hin, Hin Nam Sai Suay pub has become the trendiest place to go. This can seem a bit strange since the nightclub is located six kilometres from the city centre, at Soi 5 near the airport. Apart from a nightclub, the complex accommodates a number of smaller condo units. During the weekends, the area around Hin Nam Sai Suay tends to be crowded by cars and motorcycles. On nights when famous live bands visit the club, the not too spacious premises get extremely packed.

Star Planet is located on the ground floor of City Beach Hotel, in the very heart of of Hua Hin. You will here find another typical Thai nightclub with a bar, a scene and a large number of small tables. On the second floor of the nightclub there are a number of karaoke rooms (such rooms are extremely popular in Thailand). Most of the songs are in Thai. According to our understanding, Star Planet has become a bit less popular since Hin Nam Sai Suay made a name of itself.

Located just next to the Grand Market, Stepz is probably the first choice for local teenagers when it comes to hanging out. As at many other places in Thailand where music is played, the sound level of the music is deafening. Ear plugs of the highest quality might be your best friend if you want to try a night at Stepz. In line with the rest of the clubs in Hua Hin, Stepz closes around 2 am.

Bintabaht

Bintabaht is the heart of sin for Hua Hin. It's pretty tame compared with the outrageous excess and lust of Pattaya, but this gives it a more appealing, low-key, undercurrent for visitors. The bars are fairly loud, but not excessive, the girls play it fairly cool and don't pull you in like an ATM card.
It's still a pretty fruity place for the whole BG scene but closing times are, alas, another fly in the ointment. You'll be sat there having a blast at some bar when it suddenly the police will roll along and get the bar closed because it's nearly midnight. Since Thaksin has been booted out though lock-ins are becoming quite 'acceoted' by the PTB.
To list all bars would be repetitive so here's a selection of the bars from all areas in and around Bintabaht.

Billy's Bar: A low-key, tidy bar that is in the kareoke bar area adjacent to the Hilton Hotel. Popular with expats and with a laid back atmosphere.

London Lounge: A fairly edgy but interesting large bar opposite the irish pub.

Romantic Bar: The typical Bintaban bar, it's got the girls, the narrow bar space and music blasting. No pool or snooker here, just socialise and see where the night takes you

The Canal Road

Parallel to the main 'through road' of Hua Hin is a canal road running straight on. Already this is an area which caters to 'Thai Style' bars and kareoke. For the whole 'night scene' you really need to speak Thai to get anywhere, otherwise you'll be floundering all over the place. Hua Hin Bike Week usually gets held here.

Entertainment Venues - Hua Hin

There are a few discos and out of town clubs in and around Hua Hin. The Country Pub is a popular choice with the thai folk.

The one most people, after hitting up the bars go to is The Hilton. Part of the Hilton's hotel chain the bar/disco is really a money trap. Overpriced and overcrowded, the big plus point is that it's very close to Bintabahn and has plenty of BGs who go in after the bars shut. Worth a look for the 'Hilton Experience' if nothing else.

Hua Hin and Beyond...

There is big talk going about that in future years the zoning laws for Bintabaht will be changed to get rid of all the bars and stuff a bunch of touristy cafes and tailor shops their instead. The crazy talk goes on to say that the zoning for bars will be then relocated from Bintabaht (Central Hua Hin) to the west and north west areas of Hua Hin. There is a canal road here and this thinking would bring it into line with some other Thai cities policy on entertainment zones. Another reason for this is the Thai King has a palace nearby which seems to act as a catalyst for the police to enforce bar laws more strongly.

Streetside trolleys

Hua Hin food on the sideKiosks making a living in Thailand could be so simple as loading food on a trolleys and wheel them to the street. Customers are just under way. Meanwhile, some small entrepreneurs take the alternative of getting themselves firmly stationed to kiosks and sell food on sidewalks. Food sold by trolleys and kiosks vary, ranging from seafood noodles, meatball noodles, Pad Thai, grilled chicken, Som Tam, milk-based beverages, and Thai desserts. An item is priced about 20-30 baht. The nightly market fills up Dechanuchit Road with about 100 trolleys and kiosks selling a great variety of food, snacks and desserts every night.

Other than those, there is this type of food seller which is quite unique of Thailand, called “Ran Ar-Han Tam Sung” (“cooked to your order”). They are commonly referred to as “Tam Sung” for a less mouthful effect. Tam Sung is presented in the form of shophouses, streetside trolleys and kiosks. As explained by the name, Tam Sung can prepare almost every basic dish. A dish takes only 5-10 minutes to prepare and costs 20-30 baht.

Hua Hin soupThe majority of Tam Sungs do not have hardcopy menus for customers to leaf through in the search of their picks. Customers are expected to come up with the orders on their own. The extensive Tam Sung menu features Kao Pad (stir-fried rice), Kai Jeaw (omelet fried in wok), Kai Dao (fried egg), Rad Na (stir-fried noodles in thick gravy), Pad Ga Prao Gai (chicken stir-fried with holy basil), Pad Thai Goong Sod (authentic Thai-style stir-fried noodles with prawns and egg), among others.

Dishes cannot feel complete without drinks by their sides. Soft drinks and beers are available in a fair range in Thailand. Non-alcohol drinkers can choose from the usual items like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta Orange, Fanta Strawberry, and Fanta Cream Soda.

Beer lovers can as well sigh with relief. Aside from such local favorites as Singha, Chang, Leo, Tiger, and Heineken, beer lists in food places here also carry imported brands like Franziskaner, Weiss, Kloster, Erdinger Wheat, Erdinger Dunkel, Birra Morretti, Warsteiner and Pilsner.

Oh, this following special warning goes out specifically to health watchers who swear the allegiance to drinking water. You may come from countries where tap water is safe enough to be consumed. But, once you are in Thailand, bear in mind the level of hygiene does not apply here. If drinking water is your regular beverage, always get your thirst quenched with properly sealed bottled water.

This water-wise talk needs to extend to the cleanliness of ice. Ice served in food places mostly is purveyed by ice factories, and the process of making it, in general, does not appear so hygienic. Plus, you have completely no clue how the water is treated before the freezing. By far we have learned that very few people got sickened by consuming ice. We’re not drawing a conclusion on this subject, though. Iced or not, that’d rather be on your own consideration.

Hua Hin 7-elevenThe common array of beverages mentioned above, as well as off-the-list items such as premixed alcoholic beverages, milk, energy drinks, are also sold at cheaper prices than they are in eateries by small household retailers, outlets of retail chain 7-Eleven, hypermarket Tesco Lotus, and supermarket Tesco Lotus Express.

So far you probably have noticed the price differences between menus carried by different sorts of eateries. That could prompt you to question whether the quality of the food is actually different. Basically, out of question, decoration and rents makes the main factor of cost-doublers in upscale restaurants. Looking deep into the surface and underneath the image, food in Hua Hin generally is clean and safe to be consumed with no worries.

After all, though, be sure to check the cleanliness of the food-preparing area if you want to give a try to a sidewalk food kiosk. Or take an overall look of the dining space before making a decision to seat yourself and your companion in a proper restaurant.
